The pain management program is a
multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment program that specializes
in treating patients that are suffering from chronic and long-term
pain. The program is designed to give the patient the most
innovative, comprehensive, outpatient treatment available in the
Franklin, Fulton, and Adam's County area.
We help our patients deal
effectively with undesirable psychophysiological symptoms associated
with their chronic pain, such as, depression, anxiety, irritability,
fatigue, sleep disturbances, reduced physical activity, lack of
motivation, anger, drug side effects, and sexual dysfunction. In
addition, the Chronic Pain Patient, due to intense suffering, often
experiences diminished self-esteem. We feel it is important to
address all these problems in addition to physical rehabilitative
therapy.
In order for us to be the most
helpful and effective, we take medical referrals and we ask the
patient to have all their records concerning their pain problems sent
to our office prior to the initial evaluative visit. When this
information has arrived, we set up an initial appointment with the
patient. The initial evaluative session gives us the valuable
information that we need to set up the most comprehensive treatment
program possible and usually takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
During this initial session, a
medical, social, and emotional history of the problem is taken, as
well as an evaluation of the previous treatment modalities that have
been tried (i.e..,medication, surgery, physical therapy, occupational
therapy, and psychotherapy). In addition, the patient's mental status
is evaluated and the normative levels regarding the location,
severity, and intensity of the pain are determined. The patient is
also given a Psychophysiological Stress Evaluation and a MENS, CES, and TENS accupoint
evaluation. Finally, a chronic pain battery is administered to the
patient.
Chronic pain batteries are objective, clinical based assessments
which compare the patient's responses to others who have experienced
chronic pain. They aid us in determining the best combination of
treatment modalities to use with each individual patient.
After the treatment plan is
discussed and agreed upon by both the therapist and the patient, we
assist the patient in getting the necessary authorizations for the
treatment program from their insurance company, Workman's
Compensation, etc. Once authorization is obtained, evaluative and
treatment appointments with other chronic pain treatment
professionals are made.
Treatment in the Pain Management
Program is coordinated with
appropriate adjuctive therapies, such as physical therapy, on an
outpatient basis, in the most cost-effective and patient-based method
possible. We do our best to minimize the number of trips a patient
needs to make to and from the offices and to set up times that are
convenient to the patient. Uppermost in our minds is the patient's
unique needs, especially since the chronic pain patient may easily
aggravate his injury/ pain and regress if not given enough rest. The
healing process for each chronic pain patient is unique. Therefore,
we try to set up treatment procedures that give the patient optimal
progress in the most comfortable manner possible.
Pain-
comes from poor muscle tone and decreased blood supply and decreased
lymphatic circulation the tense muscles impede blood vessels and
irratate nerve endings= pain

Below is a listing of the approaches we use. We often use them in combinations for the best results

EMF polution- ElectroMagnetic Pollution
VLF
get rid of pesticides, Radon, CO, propane
Ozone-O3 is ozotrinus not
a low level ozone smog- use air ionizers that produce negative ions
Infared therapy and emf evaluation and changes
Sound Stimulation-
QGM Infratonic
Vibrational Stimulation-
Alpha Stim
Electroaccupuncture
TENS- Tens unit- numbs pain by affecting the nerve endings
MENS-alpha stimSCS , MENS AlphaStim 100, Personal Pain Manager
Mind Machines-
use sensory stimulation to induce specific effects on your
mind to change how you feel. Some
of these devices use light for example, while others combine the use
of light and sound, and yet others use electrical stimulation. here
are mind machines that can take away anxiety and depression (CES),
put you into a state of super-learning or instant memory
(Neurophone), or even catalyst your mind into an exotic state of
colorful visuals (AudioStrobe
Orion relaxation Machine
Roshi- The best Neurotherapy
machine on the market
Acculife- Magnetic Wave Therapy
Magnets
OMT- Osteopathic Massage Therapy by referral
Chi machine (oxygen swing machine)
Chiropractic- by referral
Reflexology-by referral
Massage
(anma-chinese-)shiatsu=finger pressure or foot pressure along energy
meridians is 5,000 years old- by referral
Massage- rubbing increases
blood circulation and reduces muscle spasm.
It washes out toxic metabolic acidoses (waste products)- by
referral
Accupressure increases blood supply and better muscle tone- by
referral

Priming Techniques- Left brain/Right brain approaches to change pain perception
We have many CDÄôs and tapes to work with the patient
Hypnosis- we teach self hypnosis and make our own tapes for your personal use
Biofeedback therapy(BT) uses instruments to objectively monitor the amount of anxiety and/or pain the patient is currently experiencing. This is quite useful to both the patient and the therapist since the patient's progress can be objectively measured. It is also useful in determining whether a particular exercise, mental image, or movement is beneficial to the patient. Therefore, we can quickly determine the specific exercises which minimize the pain, even though the patient may not sense the change immediately.
Micro-electric nerve stimulation
(MENS) is a real breakthrough in pain reduction
therapy! This therapy uses very low levels of electricity to
stimulate the chronic pain area, dissipating harmful ions that
actually cause pain and inhibit healing while stimulating cellular
growth and repair. This technique also stimulates the brain to
produce endomorphins. Endomorphins are neurotransmitters that are
manufactured in the brain. They produce a "natural morphine," or pain
depressant when they are present at the site of the pain or injury.
As a result, the patient experiences a reduction, and eventually, a
complete repression of the pain. Finally, this process stimulates the
healing of the injured area of the body.
Some examples of chronic and
acute pain injuries that respond favorably to this program are:
