NICKING PATTERNS SAINT BALLADO nicked well with MR. PROSPECTOR and NORTHERN DANCER line mares, producing eight stakes winners from each of those two lines. Saint Liam ($4,456.995) was produced from a QUIET AMERICAN/FAPPIANO line mare. Which suggests that TEQUESTA should do well with mares by ALLEN'S PROSPECT, NOT FOR LOVE, TWO PUNCH, NORQUESTOR, PRESS CARD, MINING, POWER OF MIND, WOODMAN, GOLD FEVER, GONE WEST, CARSON CITY, AFLEET, MISWAKI, SEEKING THE GOLD, FORTY NINER etc. or mares descended from those sires. Tequesta, of course, carries Mr. Prospector blood through his dam Bodacious Tatas, by Disctinctive Pro, a son of Mr. Prospector. The SAINT BALLADO-Northern Dancer cross produced the likes of Champion mare Ashado ($3,931,440) and Kentucky Derby Winner Captain Bodgit ($1,014,849). Ashado is out of a mare by MARI'S BOOK, Captain Bodgit from a GREEK ANSWER/NORTHERN ANSWER mare. Three Stakes winners by Saint Ballado sprang from the DEPUTY MINISTER arm of the Northern Dancer dynasty, but most progeny from Northern Dancer lines mares appear to have benefited from the HAIL TO REASON blood carried by Saint Ballado through his sire HALO. Mares by the likes of or descending from STORM BIRD, NIJINSKI, CARNIVALAY, LYPHARD, NUREYEV, DIXIELAND BAND, L'EMIGRANT etc. could cultivate this apparent nick. Northern Dancer is closely related to ICECAPADE and Saint Ballado sired Grade 1 winner Sister Act ($579,394) from a mare by Icecapade, which suggests that Tequesta may nick with mares by WILD AGAIN and other descendants of the Icecapade line. Saint Ballado also sired two stakes winners from SEATTLE SLEW line mares, which suggests that Tequesta may do well with certain BOLD RULER line mares. Saint Ballado produced stakes winners out of mares by SLEWPY, A.P. INDY and the great Seattle Slew. A CAVEAT mare also produced a stakes winner, suggesting that the BOLD BIDDER line might be particularly fertile ground for the Saint Ballado/Bolder Ruler line cross. Five Stakes winners by Saint Ballado descended from RIBOT line mares, an indication that mares descending from GRAUSTARK and HIS MAJESTY etc. could do well with Tequesta. Finally, Saint Ballado, being Florida-based for much of his short career (he sired but 10 crops to produce close to 70 stakes winners), nicked well with IN REALITY mares, which would suggest that Tequesta could resonate with the daughters of WAQUOIT etc. |
