There are many Internet Service Providers that offer e-mail addresses, including Yahoo, Hotmail, Outlook Express, Aol, etc. If you have an Internet Service Provider (ISP), they will most likely offer you e-mail. We will show you a sample of a generic Log-in procedure for e-mail service which is available from Yahoo Mail. Note that if it is your first time using the e-mail service, you will need to sign up by selecting your desired ID (which will become your address, for example, jdoe@yahoo.com) and secret password that you must use each time you want to sign in to check your mail or compose an e-mail. Also note that if the ID that you want is already taken, you will have to choose another ID. No two ID addresses can be identical!
Type in your ID Name: Here are a few instructions for reading your mail or for composing a letter and sending your e-mail!
To send or compose a letter: - Mouse-click one time on – COMPOSE at top of page. Note the link "Addresses" at the top -- This is not how to add addresses to a new message, it is for adding and editing your address book. Now – mouse-click one time anywhere in the big TEXT BOX and you can begin typing your letter message! Note that if you have "Explorer", a new tool bar has been added above the text box to allow you to really create a fancy letter. You can select to change your font size, highlight text, use (B)-bold print - use (I)-Italic print, or (U) to underscore certain words. You can change your font color and even add little smileys to your letter.
To add new e-mail addresses – Click on “Contacts”. – Then “ADD
new
Contact” and “save.” You only need to list the first name, last
name
and e-mail address – (email addresses should be in all lower-case
letters).
Forget the other information blocks. Leave the other blocks
unchecked
to avoid unwanted mail!
Now your addresses are listed on the address line of your letter or you can type in the address if it was not already in the address book. (List a couple words as subject of your letter). Be sure that the little box that says “save copy to SENT folder” has a check mark in it so you can then read it later in the sent folder! When done typing your letter, just mouse-click on “SEND” After you have SENT the mail you can go to the "Folders" box and you can read your letter in the Sent" file. You can save it there for sometime but if you no longer want to save it, delete it and it will be sent to the "Trash" file. Anytime you delete mail from your inbox or sent file, it goes to the "Trash" and at any time you can empty everything in the "Trash" file and you will never see it again! (Click on empty). There are other options and conveniences with "Yahoo
Mail". You
can select your own "Favorite/Bookmarked Web Sites" under the "My
Yahoo"
selection at the top of the Mail page!
If somebody sends you an e-mail that you want to reply to, just click on "Reply" at the top left, and you will go to the compose message screen, with the address and what the sender wrote originally already inputted for you. Just type your reply at the top of the compose message box and hit "Send!" If somebody sends you an excellent e-mail that you want others to see, click on "Forward", and then it will come up with the "compose" message screen again. This time, you will need to insert the address(es) of the people you want to Forward this message to from the address book. Click on "Insert Addresses" as when you compose a letter. You can also type your own short message in the compose message box as a side note to the original message, but this is not necessary. When you are done, click "Send." - Have fun! |
