The January meeting
of the Mason Dixon Corvette Club was held on January 9, 2012 at Tonys Pizza,
Hagerstown. President Greg Warren called the meeting to order, welcomed all
club members and wished everyone a “Happy New Year!”. Club
members went around the room with their introductions.
Minutes: On a motion made by Suzy Sease and 2nd
by Carl Berndt, the December minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s report:
Dickie read report. On a motion made by Ron Flegel and 2nd by Tom
Martin, the report was accepted.
GOVERNOR REPORT
-
No report.
OLD BUSINESS
- Shirts
from the Buchanan show are still for sale. It was decided to lower the
price to buy one for $20 and get one free.
On a motion by Sandy Leight and 2nd by Bob Laughlin this
motion was passed.
NEW BUSINESS
- Suzy Sease reported that the Awards Banquet will be
on Saturday, January 28th at the Waynesboro Country Club. 5:30 happy hour and 6:30 is the
meal. Cost is $25 per person. Sign up sheet was passed around and
collection of money was due at this meeting.
- Greg asked members to think about volunteering to
coordinate our Spring 2012 cruise. Steve Smith asked the club members who
all would be interested in going back to Hickory Bridge Restaurant and,
maybe, some other attraction in the area for a day cruise. Suggestions were Eisenhower farm, new
visitor center. A show of hands from the members showed an interest so
Steve will bring this up at the February meeting. Looking at late April timeframe. More
details to come.
- Ken Novinger talked about high speed driving schools
that are available to us club members. He mentioned the Cumberland Valley
Corvette club having an event on May 30th at the Poconos. Or Friday at the Track at Summit
Point. There are lots of high speed
events in the area that our club could do to test out the speed of their
vehicles. It’s a lot of fun and if anyone is interested contact Ken for
more details.
- It was asked to Ken if he will be heading up a wine
cruise this year. He said that he
wasn’t sure but will bring up this topic at a future meeting.
- 2012 Nominations: Per our last meeting all of the
officer positions were filled except for the Vice Presidency. Greg contacted Jack Irby but he declined
at this time. Greg opened the floor
for nominations and Ken Novinger nominated Chris Rauschenberger and Bob
Laughlin seconded the motion. Chris
agreed to serve as Vice President.
- Dickie reported that the current membership stands at
64 members. He is still waiting on due payments from members.
- Dickie reported that he received a new membership
application from our website. Paul Shank
of Williamsport, MD who has a 2003 Z06.
Welcome Paul!
- Dickie has
ordered new Corvette hats and he is expecting them next week. He will
bring at the banquet and next club meeting.
- At our last meeting it was discussed about how the
club walkie talkies “walked away” in a club members
home and about purchasing new walkie
talkies. Lisa Myers made a motion
not to purchase this item due to the act that everyone has a cell phone
and they could be used. Others said that they had their own walkie talkies
and they could bring them to the cruises to use, if needed. And, whoever coordinates a cruise would
need to make sure they had everyone cell phone numbers printed out for
everyone else. All members seemed
to be in agreement and it will be discussed at the next meeting.
·
50/50 was won by Mary Warren for $18.50. Also, a number was drawn for a t-shirt and
Chris Leight won.
·
On a motion made by Suzy Sease and 2nd
by Adera Laughlin the January meeting was
adjourned at 8:05 PM
